| Background | Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is an arthropod-borne alphavirus that causes Chikungunya fever, a re-emerging disease characterized by high fever, rash, and arthralgia. The E2 envelope glycoprotein is a structural protein that forms heterodimers with the E1 glycoprotein and is displayed on the viral surface as part of trimeric spike complexes.
