Background

Envelope glycoprotein D (gD) is a ~43 kDa protein. Envelope glycoprotein that binds to the host cell entry receptors NECTIN1, TNFRSF14/HVEM and 3-O-sulfated heparan sulfate, promoting the virus entry into host cells. May trigger fusion with host membrane, by recruiting the fusion machinery composed of gB and gH/gL.
